English

This study aimed to investigate the effects of different dietary levels of a commercial Multibehsil probiotic on growth performance and some carcass biochemical compositions in juvenile rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss). For this purpose, 600 fish with an initial average weight of 18 ± 2 g were randomly assigned, after a one-week acclimation period, to four experimental treatments, including a control group and three probiotic-supplemented groups receiving 100, 200, and 300 mg probiotic per kg of diet, with three replicates per treatment. The fish were hand-fed three times daily for 45 days at a feeding rate of 4–5% of body weight. The results showed that protein-specific growth rate, protein production value, lipid production value, retained protein, energy-specific growth rate, and energy production value were significantly higher in all probiotic-supplemented treatments compared with the control group (P<0.05). However, weight gain rate, energy utilization efficiency, and retained energy did not differ significantly between the experimental treatments and the control group (P>0.05). Final weight, weight gain, condition factor, feed efficiency ratio, and lipid efficiency ratio were significantly higher in fish receiving 100 mg probiotic/kg diet compared with those receiving 200 mg/kg (P<0.05); however, no significant differences were observed between these treatments and the control group (P>0.05). Similarly, the protein efficiency ratio was significantly higher in the 200 mg/kg treatment than in the 100 mg/kg treatment (P<0.05). The specific growth rate in length was significantly higher in the 200 mg/kg treatment compared with the control group (P<0.05), but showed no significant differences compared with the other experimental treatments (P>0.05). The condition factor in the 200 mg/kg treatment was significantly lower than that of the control group (P<0.05), while no significant differences were observed among the other treatments and the control group (P>0.05). Overall, dietary supplementation with Multibehsil probiotic improved several growth performance indices, feed utilization parameters, and nutrient utilization efficiency in juvenile rainbow trout. However, increasing the probiotic inclusion level did not necessarily result in further improvements in growth responses. The best performance for many evaluated parameters was observed at the supplementation level of 100 mg probiotic per kg diet. These findings indicate that the effects of Multibehsil probiotic are dose-dependent, and selecting an appropriate supplementation level is essential for achieving optimal improvements in fish performance.
