Abstract
Crabs are economically important marine organisms and are rich sources of protein, vitamins, minerals, glycogen, and free amino acids. In this study, 60 specimens of the crab Thalamita crenata were collected from the coast of Tis (Chabahar Bay) and transferred to 60-liter tanks with salinities of 32, 34, 36 (control), and 38 g/L. Total fat content, body weight, and carapace length were measured on days 1 and 21. On day 1, the highest total fat content (5.13±0.23%) was recorded in treatment 2, whereas on day 21, the highest value (6.10±0.21%) was observed in treatment 1. Throughout the study, male specimens exhibited higher average values of body weight, carapace length, and total fat content compared to females. On day 1, no significant correlation was found between salinity and fat content, carapace length, or weight in T. crenata (P>0.05), although a significant positive correlation was observed between carapace length and weight (P<0.01). By day 21, the correlations between salinity and total fat content, as well as between carapace length and weight, were both statistically significant (P < 0.01). These findings suggest that salinity fluctuations influence the total fat content of T. crenata, and salinity should be considered a key factor in the reproduction and aquaculture of this species
